KS Ravikumar to direct Ajith

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Ajith and KS Ravi Kumar join forces again. Their collaborations ‘Villain’ and ‘Varalaaru’ were mega hits. Their third film together is for AVM!

Ajith

After ‘Billa’ is over, Ajith will act in ‘Akbar’ directed by Raju Sundaram. Shriya is his heroine. After this, he will act in the film directed by KS Ravikumar and produced by AVM’s Balasubramanian.

Since their earlier 2 films were super hits, distributors are expectant over their third collaboration.

For his acting in ‘Varalaaru,’ Ajith did not get any award from the Tamilnadu govt. KS Ravikumar has expressed disappointment over this. In fact he wonders if the selection committee had even seen ‘Varalaaru.’

They hope that this new film will make up for the award that Ajith did not get for ‘Varalaaru.’

The fans are anyway happy!

Ajith tries his good luck charm again!

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Billa 2007 is on a fast track wrapping up for a November end release, although, disappointing Ajith’s fans failing to release and missing out the festivities of Deepavali. What was touted to be a Deepavali release was delayed; blame it on the final touches that are not likely to be finished before the festival.

Ajithkumar

Latest reports suggest that the November 30th release date that was announced recently might be in for some delay. However, after finalizing Akbar to be his next movie, Ajith also seems to have decided on his project after Akbar.

Said to be produced by AVM productions Balasubramaniam, this movie will be directed by Ajith’s good luck charm director K.S. Ravikumar. The director, however, is busy with Kamal’s mega project Dasavatharam. If sources are to be believed, the new movie will hit the floors after Ajith’s commitments with the Raju Sundaram directed Akbar and KSR’s with Dasavatharam are over.

With a background of blockbuster hits like Villain and Varalaru, the director-actor combo’s new venture is likely to spawn great expectations.

While talking to the media, producer Suresh said that the shooting of the film is completed and the crew is currently busy at Mumbai with the post production work. He further added that there are many special effects scenes in the film which would certainly have the audience baffled with its technical finesse. When questioned about the number of prints for Billa, the producer said that they intend to release the film with 250 prints and a special feature about Billa 2007 will be its English subtitles primarily aimed at the international audience. Award function – enjoyable scenes

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Yesterday was a special day for Tamil cinema. It is indeed a special occasion when top stars like Vijay, Vikram, Ajith and Surya come together for a function. This was possible because of the Tamilnadu govt film awards function.

It was a grand program. In the afternoon, fans started gathering outside the University Centenary Auditorium in Chennai. Naturally, only those with invitation were allowed admission to the program.Rajinikanth, Kamalhasan, Karunanidhi

The cultural program started from 4pm onwards. Prominent playback singers sang to the music of Yuvan Shankar Raja and Harris Jayaraj. This was followed by dances by Nila, Lakshmi Rai and Namitha.

At 5pm, the award function commenced under the leadership of Tamilnadu Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala.

Kamal wore a black shirt. Rajini was clad in white dhoti and shirt. Ajith was clad in a suit as usual and Vijay was sporting a pair of glasses. Rajini started his speech by explaining his appearance, saying his daughters had made him remove his beard and dye his hair and moustache!

Ajith, Karunanidhi

He spoke about the Sethusamudram project, the film ‘Periyar,’ lauded the work of Karthi, Priya Mani and Ameer in ‘Paruthiveeran’ and one could see the extra happiness on the faces of those concerned. He also mentioned being invited to do

Ravana’s role in ‘Lankeswaran’ and when he spoke of this or that "adhurudhu," everyone in the audience cheered him on!

Ajith and Vijay were sitting next to each other and it was nice to see them both talking and laughing together. Kamal appreciated being given a book instead of the traditional shawl.

An emotional TM Soundararajan received the Thyagaraja Bhagavathar award and the CM blessed him with a hand on his head.

The function ended at 8.30pm.

TN Awards – all Glitz and Glam

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

The Centenary Auditorium at the Madras University wore a festive look on October 16th, where the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.Karunanidhi, presided over the State Awards ceremony. The function was a star-studded affair and the most deserving artistes and technicians were duly felicitated with awards.

Karunanidhi & Kamal Haasan & Rajinikanth

Awards functions always witness interesting speeches delivered by the guests. Superstar Rajinikanth, known for his anecdotes didn’t come up with one this time around but was nostalgic about his last award. He said: "One has to give good films and it should run successfully to get the patronage of the people. The State government by way of giving awards has honored such good films. I am receiving the award for the best actor after a gap of 32 years. Chandramukhi was always special to me. I appeared as a King Vettayan in the movie towards the climax, which attracted the attention of the movie-buffs. The role was inspired by few valorous men, who were in the court of Aurangazeb." He also requested the Chief Minister to talk to his politician friends up north and come up with an amicable solution to the Ram-Sethu controversy. The Chief Minister, on the request said: “I have a request, too. You also have friends in north India. When you visit the Himalayas next time, tell the sages there that I have nothing against Rama. In fact, my leader Periyar was called Ramasamy.” It was a remark in lighter vein, which had the audience in splits.

It was indeed a feast for the audience eyes when their favorite stars graced the stage one after the other. For those seated far away, a huge screen displayed the proceedings on stage. The audiences were awestruck at the rapport these stars shared and were jubilant as their favorite stars delivered speeches one after the other. Ajith and Vijay, seated next to each other, captured the attention of everyone present. This event, to be telecast soon on TV, is bound to be a good weekend treat.

Ajith putting on weight

Friday, October 12th, 2007

No one knows about the get-up, costume, songs or anything. Even the nature of Nayantara and Namitha roles is a secret.

Ajith

The information about Ajith’s ‘Billa’ is being kept more secret than an atom bomb! Not even one still has been released till now. They are afraid that if films are sent to the lab, the stills would somehow leak out.

But there’s lot of info about the film Ajith will act in after ‘Billa.’ Ajith is to increase his weight a little bit for this role in the film to be directed by dancer/choreographer Raju Sundaram. Shriya has been asked for her call sheet. The film will most probably be titled ‘Akbar.’

Since Ajith has generally not been feeling too well, he has been in total rest and did not even participate in the Filmfare Awards held in Hyderabad. He is however expected to participate in the award function held by the Tamilnadu Govt on Oct 16. Ajith will receive the MGR Award from the Chief Minister.

So, one could get a glimpse of Ajith’s ‘Akbar’ appearance on Oct 16.
