Feature: It’s Varalaru for Ajith

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

If there is someone who has been sustaining a major fan following from the very beginning, it is undeniably Ajith.

Ajith’s fans celebrate his every move, the audiences
enjoy his histrionic abilities and critics get nothing less than awed
to see his self-confidence, undeterred hard work and obsession about
films that has always consistently been on the high.

Ajith
is confidence personified. His contemporaries who are otherwise also
his professional competitors cannot but agree to this. His warm
gestures towards directors and conviction in keeping up with his ideals
make him stand apart. His die-hard passion for racing did get him a few
brickbats but it is to be remembered that he tried his best to juggle
both acting and racing, both uncertain arenas in their own way. Let’s
be magnanimous enough to accept this-it takes courage to pursue two
different careers like these with utmost fervor and Ajith has done it.
Ajith, then, is a role model for those that want to listen to their
hearts.

In the current scenario, a movie running for 100
days in a theatre is a miracle. Ajith has shown that he can deliver
miracles with the stupendous success of Varalaru, which has gone on to
complete a 100 day run. Kollywood saw seven movies releasing for last
Deepavali. Out of the seven, four films have crossed 100 days. Needless
to say, Varalaru is one among them.

The other films to have achieved this feat are E
with Jeeva and Nayanthara in the lead, Thalaimagan with Sarath Kumar
and Nayanthara playing the key roles and Vallavan from the Simbu
stable, this film again with Nayanthara and also Reema Sen and Sandhya.

Varalaru,
which opened in over 300 screens worldwide including 23 screens in
Chennai district, has crossed the 100 day mark, much to the joy of his
die-hard fans. India Today reported that this film is the biggest
blockbuster in Ajith’s career. Trade pundits opine that this film would
continue with its good run for some more time.

Generally, there is a feeling in the Tamil film
industry that films which are in production for a long time do not do
all that well. Many films have had delayed releases and unfortunately,
they also turned out to be damp squibs. In a sentiment driven industry,
Varalaru, which was lying in the cans for a long time, proved a point,
and a strong one at that.

Varalaru
is a landmark film for Ajith for he was able to portray three different
roles, which are in no way similar to each other, with aplomb. As the
dancer with effeminate mannerisms, Ajith stole the show. It can be
recollected now, that Ajith, during the initial stages of his career,
has admitted to being not-so-good at dancing. And now, he has played
the role of a dancer and how!

A role of a lifetime, Ajith did it with clarity and
conviction. The other two roles-one as a happy-go-lucky but a warm son,
and other as a ruthless baddie, were just about perfect too.

At this juncture, Indiaglitz congratulates Ajith on this feat and we wish him continued successes.

All the best Ajith, here’s hoping to see more of your brilliant performances!

Varalaru creates Varalaru

Monday, January 29th, 2007

In the dream factory, a movie running for more than one hundred days is surely an accomplishment of a highest order. It is the result of a hard labor from an entire team. Kollywood had an impressive line up of seven movies for the festive season of Diwali this year.

Varalaru

Out of this, four films have achieved this spectacular feat of crossing the one hundred day mark. They are Ajith’s Varalaru, Jeeva’s E, Simbu’s Vallavan and Sarathkumar’s Thalaimagan.

Varalaru stands out from the rest of the films in scaling the centenary mark in more than 25 theatres. It is expected that this film would continue its winning streak for some more time. E is in a close second position running in 20 theatres followed by Vallavan in a few theatres.

Varalaru provided Ajith with the much required break. His acting histrionics was very well appreciated by one and all and proved to be a bench mark for this talented actor.

Ajith busy with Kireedom

Monday, January 29th, 2007

Ajith, the handsome hero, is busy giving an extra polish to his next film Kireedom.

Kireedom, which pits Ajith with Trisha, is produced by L Suresh and is directed by Vijay, a former associate of Dharani.

A remake of the Malayalam hit of the same name,
Kireedom deals, primarily, about a cute and emotive relationship
between a dad and son.

The keenness of Ajith in getting the film right can
be gauged by the fact that he made it to the film’s shoot in a car from
Chennai to Vizag as the flights were all cancelled due to the fog.

Now that is what professionalism is.

Ajith will be, hopefully, rewarded well for his sincerity.

Billa is back with Ajith

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Billa produced by Balaji in 1980, with Rajini as its hero is still not forgotten by the Tamil Fans, & it made a special mark in the silver screen and claimed an unique position among all the movies released at that time. Billa was dubbed from the bollywood movie Don lead by Amithabh Bachan and the movie was a super hit at that time, is now remade with Sharukh Khan as Don and this too is running successfully.

Now Billa is back with Ajith replacing Rajini as "Billa 2007" and is the most expected movie in the coming year. With the changing cine trend, remake of old movies are received well and Billa joins the list. An expectation is there among all the Tamil Fans to see the difference in the field of action, direction etc. between the two Billas.

Rajini
Ajith may fit best for the film as he has a long list of action movies starting from Dheena to Thirupathi. Ajith has made a tremendous impact in Varalaru and is claimed as a super hero. The expectation grows and the Tamil audience believes that
RajiniAjith would be best fit for performing the character of the road side dancer who habitually chews Paan in Billa.

The original version was directed by R. Krishnamoorthy and the new version is
Ajith going to be directed by Vishnuvardhan who has given great hits like Arindum Ariyamalum and Pattiyal. He is well known for directing action movies and with Ajith, is expected to make the film a super hit. Vishnuvardhan penned the dialogues for the movie, as Ajith needs punch dialogues on all his movies. The movie is produced by L.Suresh, Choreography is by Raju Sundaram, Editing by A.Sreekar Prasad and Director of Photography is Nirav Shah.

Replacement of the female characters Sripriya,Praveena, Helen, Mano
Ajithrama is yet to be finalized. But it is said that Shreya and Nayanthara have already joined the group of "Billa 2007".

As Vishnuvardhan is the director, the music director is expected to be the young gentleman Yuvan Shankar Raja who has made lot of super hits since his debut film. As Yuvan is famous for the remixing of songs, we can expect lot of remixing in this movie too. Definitely Ajith fans will expect Ajith to come out with "My name is Billa….." and "Vethalaya potendi……"

“Billa” made Rajini a Super Star among all other stars certainly Billa 2007 with Ajith is going to make the Ultimate Star to get an unique position in the hearts of Tamil fans in the coming year.

Varalaru written for Rajni and Kamal

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

n a recent interview to a private television channel, director K S Ravikumar was heard discussing many interesting anecdotes in his film career spanning more than a decade. While he was conversing about his recent successful film Varalaru with Ajith, he had many fascinating trivia up his sleeve which he was only too willing to share with the audience.

Varalaru

The story of Varalaru was initially written keeping Kamal Hassan in mind and was narrated to him. But some how, Tenali took over Varalaru and was completed. Then Ravikumar moved on to super star Rajnikanth and recounted the story. Incidentally, talks about Jaggubai surfaced but unfortunately it has to be dropped as the story had too many shades of similarities with Badshah. Then Chandramukhi happened for Rajni and the rest as they say is history. But apparently Rajnikanth was so impressed about the storyline of Varalaru that he expressed his desire to do this subject at a later date.

Meanwhile Varalaru was completed with Ajith in the lead and the film registered an emphatic victory at the box office and proved a milestone in Ajith’s career too. After witnessing Varalaru, super star on a lighter vein has remarked that Ravikumar should have waited for him to do Varalaru.

Ajit - Mission Impossible!

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Our Thalai
Ajit is a man who tries to keep his word, especially regarding his
work. Last Monday, he had to start a schedule for the shoot of his Kireedam in Visakhapatanam and was supposed to fly from Chennai on Sunday afternoon.

But unfortunately Vizag airport was closed due to smog around the area.
The shutdown is because the Navy-controlled airport lacks modern
navigational facilities to guide civilian air traffic even in light
smog conditions. So our hero was stranded at the Chennai airport.

The rest of the unit was already in Vizag, and crucial scenes featuring
Ajit had to be shot. And there was no chance of the airport re-opening,
with the smog around. Tickets on the night train to Vizag were not
available and it was inconvenient as the train arrives only late
afternoon the next day.
Ajit was determined to reach Vizag against all odds. So our dare-devil
hero just jumped into his car and decided to drive down all the way!
Yes, he and two others working in the film took off in a Toyota Innova
and took the Chennai- Kolkota National Highway 5.

They traveled through the night and drove non-stop ( only stopped at roadside dhabas to sip tea ) and reached Vizag early in the morning.

It was ‘Mission Impossible’ achieved by the fastest race driver in
Indian cinema, as he did the nearly 800 Kilometer drive in less than 12
hours! After a wash, Ajit reported for work, on schedule at 8 am.

Ajith’s magnanimity

Friday, January 19th, 2007

The confusion of ticket rates was hanging like a ‘Damocles sword’ when movies were getting ready for release this Pongal.

The reduction in cinema ticket rates forced the
theatre owners to come to a decision that in the name of minimum
guarantee, no advance will be given to distributors.

Annoyed with the decision of the theatre-owners, the
distributors had no other option but to approach the producers urging
them to reduce the price of the movie for the areas.

In turn, the producers were compelled to turn
towards the artistes urging them to refund a part of their remuneration
to appease the distributors.

Now, it is reported that Ajith immediately paid heed
to their request and returned a part of his salary that amounts to
quite a sum. It may be recalled that on earlier occasions too, Ajith
had cut down on his remuneration whenever crisis surfaced.

Generosity personified is Ajith.
