Vishnuvardhan and Ajith – ‘Not now’, says Vishnu!

Thursday, June 29th, 2006
Ajith

The most sought after director in tinsel town these days seems to be director Vishnuvardhan of Pattiyal fame. Already rumours are doing the rounds that he may direct Ajith’s next movie. But Vishnu has put a firm stop to all of it by saying, "While it is true that I was approached to direct Ajith’s next film under the production of Mohan Natrajan, I was unable to accept as I have already committed a film to director Bala’s B Studio’s house of filmmaking. So I had to let the opportunity of working with Ajith pass."

Since he has revealed that his next project is for B Studio’s, we are only curious to find out more about the project. "It is a joint venture between Studio Green’s Gnanavel and Bala’s B Studios and the movie is titled "Sarvam". The story, screenplay, dialogue and direction of the film will be my responsibility, with actor Surya playing the lead and Tollywood heartthrob Ileana being cast opposite Surya."

This director sure is busy, as shooting for this film starts in October, with the goal of releasing this film for Tamil New Year next year, while he has already committed to direct a movie for Saran and Gemini Productions!

Bhavana to pull out from Naan Kadavul?

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006
Bhavana

Young Bhavana is the toast of Kollywood right now. Her petite looks and immense talent have made her a sought after youngster. While she has been careful in choosing the scripts, she is also quite savvy to only accept projects with leading heroes. No doubt this will raise her stock in the industry. The actress accepted Naan kadavul with the hope that she would get to work with Ultimate Star, Ajith. After the Bala fiasco, she is quite apprehensive about whether to stay on in the project or not.

She is also contemplating whether to ease herself out citing date problems. When a hero of Ajith’s standing has been beaten blue, it is no wonder small fry like her feel the jitters.

Ajith-Bala tussle: Financiers under trouble! One attacked by a mob and the other to face police action?

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Much like He-who-shall-not-be-named from the Harry Potter series, we have a financier in the Tamil film industry who commands respects, calls the shots, and literally has the industry shivering when they just hear his name.

Ajith

Well, considering the fact that he is the sole financier for a majority of Tamil films produced, it hardly comes as a surprise. In fact, even in the recent Ajith – Bala fracas, his name was the central figure, as there were complaints that he was the one who threatened Ajith. Dailies and magazines have started to write about his atrocities in the industry, subtly though, and it is said that since the government has changed hands, the financier might be in serious risk of facing police action.

Bala

High vigilance is being observed by the police, as they wait and watch, hoping for one small slip, to catch the financier red-handed. Sadly, there is no one to bell the cat, and rumour has it that many top producers, actors and directors have lost their wealth and sometimes even their lives too, courtesy this dreaded figure in the industry. Recent reports state that a leading producer has finally lodged a complaint against him, under the protection and surety of the police of course. Looks like it might not be long before He-who-shall-not-be-named will be behind bars.

Ajith

Meanwhile another financier Sanjay, who is said to be have been a part of the Ajith – Bala episode that took place in the hotel, was attacked by a mob last night. Ajith fans, who are furious over the episode, participated in several demonstrations all over the state and also pasted posters condemning Bala. There were plans even to hold demonstrations outside Bala’s residence, but Ajith intervened and requested his fans to maintain patience, assuring them that he would handle the situation.

Ajith

Here is a detailed report on the sequence of events – Sanjay is also a film financier and he is said to have been there when the Ajith –Bala tussle took place in the hotel. Sanjay is also said to have threatened the actor. Last night, Sanjay, accompanied with his wife, drove into his new home at New Avadi Road, Kilpauk. They got out of their car, and moved towards the house, when two strangers neared him, pretending to be enquiring about an address. Suddenly, a Toyota Qualis arrived on the scene, halting suddenly with screeching brakes.

Ten people jumped out of the car and in seconds, they fiercely attacked Sanjay and his wife. The couple had to finally escape in their car!

Sanjay immediately launched a complaint about the incident in the G3 Kilpauk Police station. Joint Commissioner Seema Agarwal, Assistant Commissioner Ganesa Moorthy and Deputy Commisioner Rangarajan are enquiring into this matter and the police are seriously on the lookout for this mob.

A surprise move

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

Ajith,
who chose to keep a low profile following reports of a group of
henchmen threatening him for pulling out of Bala’s Naan Kadavul, has
urged Vishnu Vardhan to direct his forthcoming venture.

Interestingly Vishnu Vardhan, who is on a high after
the back-to-back success in Arindhum Ariyamalum and Pattiyal, was
supposed to do a film for Bala’s home production (B Studios).

But Ajith has convinced him to take up his movie, which would be produced by Mohan Natarajan.

Sources say Vishnu Vardhan has now pulled out of Bala’s venture and has begun penning script for Ajith’s venture.

With reports of altercation between Ajith and Bala
doing rounds, Ajith’s move to rope in Vishnu Vardhan for his next
venture has created surprise in Kollywood circles.

When several artistes urged Ajith to come out in open against Bala, he declined all their requests and chose to remain silent.

But now he has made his move.

Pressure on Ajith

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

A
section of actors has been reportedly been urging Ajith to file an
official complaint against director Bala for reportedly threatening him
for refusing to act in Naan Kadavul.

Reports in the vernacular press have been suggesting
that Ajith was grilled by some henchmen reportedly sent by Bala after
the actor refused to be part of Naan Kadavul.

Though Bala and Ajith both said that they have
sorted out the differences between them mutually, reports of Ajith
being threatened have created ripples in the industry.

Major voices in Kollywood wants the Nadigar Sangam to intervene in the issue and safeguard the interests of the actor.

They have sent their representations to Nadigar
Sangam president Vijayakanth in this regard. They have even threatened
to go on a one-day token strike against Bala if the issue is not sorted
out soon.

Meanwhile fans of Ajith have been continuing
protests against Bala. Posters have been struck by them condemning Bala
in different parts of the State.

Meanwhile, it is also learnt that Vishnu Vardhan,
who was to do a film for Bala, has now dropped it. Instead, he is
penciled to do a movie with Ajith.

Is the industry rallying against Bala?

Ajith stops Vijayakanth – “Do not intervene”

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

The Ajith-Bala threat encounter is taking on new angles every other day. What was reported by the press…is it true? Was Ajith threatened to return the advance he was given for ‘Naan Kadavul’ along with interest? Was he forced to sign on a blank paper? These are million dollar questions for which there are no answers, since neither Ajith nor Bala are speaking about it.

When everyone is talking about it, people wondered why the Nadigar Sangam remains silent. It is

Ajith
understood that the actors have urged Vijayakanth to take necessary action. Following this, Vijayakanth called Ajith and asked him if it was true that he was threatened and to give a complaint to Nadigar Sangam to that effect, so they could take action. In response Ajith has said, “I am happy that you have enquired after this incident,” but insisted that he would tackle the matter himself.

Actor Nasser who always fights for justice has also called up Ajith and urged him to courageously file a complaint so they could take the necessary action. Ajith is supposed to have given him the same response as he did to Vijayakanth.

Ajith is one person who does not speak about his troubles or his charity work. He has worked free in films hassled by finances or for producers who have undergone losses. Does he club the ‘talks with Bala’ at Palmgrove Hotel in this category? God knows. But one thing is for sure.

The ultimate star is indeed one of a kind!

Ajith-Bala issue: Actors to go on for a token strike?

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006
Ajith

The Ajith-Bala episode is taking a new turn with reports that Vijayakanth had advised Ajith to formally place a complaint against Bala. But, Ajith declined. Similarly, several actors have been pressurizing Ajith, but he has maintained a stubborn no. The fact that he wants to brush aside the incident seems to suggest that he is deeply hurt by the turn of events. Meanwhile, two groups of Ajith fans from Madurai and Nagercoil had promised to picket in front of director Bala’s house asking for a public apology.
However, Ajith has asked them to desist from any such thing and advised them to go home. Left with no other option, they returned to their towns.

There is a growing section of actors who believe that the Sangam should intervene even if Ajith does not complain in a formal manner. They cite examples of the Kushboo-Thangar incident.
Besides, the actors and actresses have threatened to go on strike if the issue is not addressed properly. Even if the Sangam does not take action, they have decided to observe at least a day’s strike as a token of solidarity with a leading actor who is one of the finest gentlemen in Tamil cinema.

Bala-Ajith issue: Nadigar Sangam to intervene?

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

The storm is indeed on. The Ajith-Bala episode might snowball into a controversy which could divide the industry vertically.

Bala

Ajith has kept mum on the affair but opinion is building up that the entire instance should be viewed seriously and Bala should be hauled up if he indeed had intimidated Ajith. There are several voices that Vijayakanth and Nadigar Sangam should intervene and come out with a decision. But, Vijayakanth has indicated subtly that he would do something only if Ajith gives a formal complaint. People consider that this is a way of evading the issue, as Vijayakanth does not want to help Ajith who had ignored the Sangam previously.
The Captain however stoutly refuses this. He promised that the issue would be discussed at the executive meeting of the Sangam to be held soon.

Ajith

Leading actors are shaken by the whole incident. One actor who chose to be anonymous said, “If such a thing could do happen to Ajith who has lakhs of fans, think of up and coming actors. They could be easily bullied and coerced. This would mean that Kollywood would also come under the grips of dons like Bollywood. Such an ugly scenario should never be allowed to develop. We have been contacting Ajith to take some action.

Whether the Nadigar Sangam discusses the issue or not, the actors would convene a meeting and reach some formula to tackle such issues in the future. The venue would be kept secret. We have been contacting leading actors and actresses over the phone. You could soon hear some significant developments.

This is a new development in the industry where actors and actresses have always abided by the Sangam’s rulings and guidelines. This time round they feel that the Sangam’s top brass might not be interested in the issue and hence they have taken the onus in their own hands. Watch out for more updates.

Ajit grabs Vishnu, Bala miffed!

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

In
a bizarre turn of events, the Kollywood grapevine has it that
Vishnuvardhan the most promising director has dropped his plans to make
his next film for Bala with Suriya in the lead and instead do Mohan
Natarajan’s film with Ajit as the hero!

Vishnu had met Ajit and his producer Mohan Natarajan and had a
discussion. But the latest we hear is that Vishnu is sorting out the
issue with Bala and has almost made up his mind to do his next film for
Ajit. It is advantage Ajit all the way as he has taken sweet revenge on
Bala, who had humiliated him in the Njan Kadavul episode.

Ajit is sure that Vishnuvardhan who knows the pulse of the youth
audience can deliver the goods. The fans of Ajit who were baying for
Bala’s blood are also happy and they feel that their thalai’s
combination with Vishnu is sure to be deadly. Added to that Vishnu is a
producer’s delight as he completes and releases his films on time,
within the budget.

Meanwhile Ajit, Bala and Vishnu refused to comment on this latest
development. However sources close to producer Mohan Natarajan says
that he is planning to start the project with Vishnu and Ajit on July
7.

`Godfather ready. But…`

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

K.S.Ravikumar’s Godfather
with Ajit in triple role has been in the news for all the wrong
reasons. There have been many SMS jokes making the rounds on the film.

A smiling, cool and composed Ravikumar says: “The entire film is over. I had a special screening of Godfather
for superstar Rajnikanth, in my home theatre. Rajni sir congratulated
me after he saw the entire film and said that it was a racy
entertainer”.

Ravikumar says the double-positive of the film is ready and it will
take him just five days for the first copy to be ready. Says Ravikumar:
“Let producer Nic Arts Chakravarthy and his financier Mahendra Singh
Jain sort out their financial problems …then the film will hit the
screens”.

That precisely is the problem. Financial hassles involving producer and
his financiers which has been hanging on fire for months. Added to that
Chakravarthy’s one time close buddy Ajit is no longer in talking terms
with him.

Mahendra Singh Jain  the financier is the savior of Godfather but unfortunately his money is blocked in two other films Kaja Moideen’s Perarasu and Vetayadu Vilayadu. The bone of contention is that 7th Channel Narayanan who took over Vetayadu Vilayadu
from Moideen refuses to settle Jain’s money. Narayanan says that it is
highly inflated amount as Kaja’s had told him that he owes Jain very
little money!

So in a way, Perarasu, Vetayadu Vilayadu and Godfather
are all interlinked and unless one of them makes it to the theatres,
the other two will never see the light of the day! Meanwhile Jain
himself is producing a film along with Gautham Menon Silanthi, the Sarathkumar-Jyothika starrer which distributors are refusing to touch!

What a merry-go-round!
