Ajith plays a singer in Naan Kadavul

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Bala does seem to have a different story for his Ajith starrer Naan Kadavul. Discussions are going on in Podhigai Malai though the shooting is scheduled to be held in holy centres like Palani, Rameshwaram and Haridwar. Ajith will join Bala after a brief vacation that he plans to take once he completes Tirupathi. When the two come together, Naan Kadavul will kick off. It is learnt that Ajith plays a singer who sings for the last rites. How well will the role suit Ajith? But remember it Bala who is the director.

Bhavana is Ajit’s heroine!

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Lady
luck seems to be in favour of Bhavana the bubbly girl from Trichur in
Kerala. It is the biggest ever break for an upcoming heroine to be
‘Ultimate star’ Ajit’s heroine in Njan Kadavul. Remember that her Chithirem Pesuthadi is one of the hits of 2006 and she has just completed Veyil with Bharath produced by Shankar.

Bala who was away in a Theni resort writing the script of his ambitious Njan Kadavul
was on the look out for a girl who can emote well. Initially he had
approached Meera Jasmine but her attitude rubbed Bala the wrong way and
later after he saw Chithirem Pesuthadi in Theni, he was impressed by Bhavana’s performance that he decided to cast her.

In all Bala films, the heroine has a well-etched out role and even in Njan Kadavul
she is a springboard for the Ajit character’s heroism. Added producer
P.L.Thenappan: “It is a performance oriented role and I think Bhavana
can do full justice to the character”.

Bhavana has just completed her plus two exams in Trichur and will be starting work on a Malayalam film titled Chess with Dileep.

Father Ajith and Villain Ajith and an upbeat Ravikumar

Ajith

The moment you meet Director K S Ravikumar these days, you will find a 70mm smile breaking upon his face. The guy is upbeat for his Godfather, with Ajith in the lead has come up to his expectations. Slated to release this May after Tirupathi, the movie features Ajith in three lead roles—father, son and villain. “Ajith comes in three roles and four get-ups,” beams Ravikumar and continues, “It’s a thrilling story. When a village can split for the sake of a single hero, imagine what it can do for three strong characters. Ajith has given an excellent performance. Ajith as father has two sons; one is the hero and the other is the villain. Hero Ajith pairs with Asin and father Ajith pairs with Kaniha. It’s an action-cum-entertaining film.” K S Ravikumar need not have said that. Everyone in the industry knows that when Ravikumar makes a movie, it ought to be entertaining and hilarious.

Ajith who is now working in Tirupathi has one more song to complete for Godfather. But he can’t do it right now. He sports a moustache and beard for his role in Tirupathi and unless it completes he can’t shave off his beard. Tirupathi will be releasing this Tamil New Year’s Day, that is April 14th.

“Throughout the movie Father Ajith and Villain Ajith are at loggerheads,” says Ravikumar. Further he adds: “Hero Ajith’s Bharath Naatiyam dance is the highlight of the film. He is not a classical dancer but two days of training and wow, you must see him performing.” According to Ravikumar, the movie is going to be a turning point not only to Ajith but also to him.

Ravikumar confesses that he did face a lot of problems while making Godfather but that he has solved all of them. “I’m a firm believer in what Lord Krishna says in the Gita. Do your duty but expect no fruits thereof,” he concludes. Both Ajtih and Ravikumar are sure that Godfather would be a turning point to their career.

Triple refined story for Ajith

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Ajith is still a much sought after hero. Many are the directors and producers who want to sign him up but the guy is cautious and slow. He doesn’t want to accept offers left, right and centre. There are also wannabe directors who knock at his door in endless numbers to tell him a story. Ajith doesn’t drive them away. Who knows! There may be a Shankar or Manirathnam in them. Therefore, to listen to stories, Ajith has appointed a person. He listens to the stories of the new directors. If the story is good, the person is passed on to Shalini, Ajith’s wife. If she finds the story good, then of course, Ajith listens to it. So far, no one has crossed the first gate, the newly appointed story listener.

Bharadwaj on target

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Bharadwaj
has won the accolades from fans of Ajith for his peppy tunes in
Tirupathi. After Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam and Attagasam, it’s the
fourth film for Bharadwaj and Ajith combo.

Relishing the experience of working with Ajith,
Bharadwaj says, ‘we share a good rapport and hence all songs I composed
for him has hit the chartbusters.

Tirupathi is being produced by AVM and directed by Perarasu.

Working with AVM, the music-director, says, ‘I’m
comfortable when I work for AVM. I enjoyed scoring music for the
production house’s earlier ventures Gemini and Anbae Anbae. The O Podu
number in Gemini won an identity for me’.

‘Director Perarasu has penned the lyrics himself and
hence it was easy for me to team up with him and get what he wanted,’
Bharadwaj says.

Guess what is Bharadwaj’s favourite song in the
album? The title song Tirupathi Vantha sung by Shankar Mahadevan, which
he says will surely rock theatres.

Last minute rush

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

With
just a few days left for Tamil New Year’s Day, a mad rush is on to have
some movies released on the D-Day. Normally a host of movies would
grace the theatres on the festive day including ones starring few
biggies. It may be recalled that last year Rajinikanth had
Chandramukhi, Kamal Hassan Mumbai Express and Vijay Sachin on this day.

This year, it seems unlikely that Kamal Hassan’s
Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu would be ready for release. The movie has to
cross few legal hurdles to make it.

Ready and raring to go is AVM’s 167th venture
Tirupathi starring Ajith. With all biggies associated, it is a movie to
watch out this season. Movies like Dhanush’s Pudhupettai and Githan
Ramesh’s Jerry have decided to postpone the release to May with
elections around.

Starting the blocks as clear winner is Tirupathi.

The six fights by Ajith

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

With a Tamil New Year release in mind, Ajith is getting all set to explode on screen with ‘Thirupati,’ the 167th film produced by the famous house of AVM. Since the film is shaping up better than what they thought, the film unit looks very pleased in general.

Though it’s a commercial film with the usual song, dance and fights, the way Perarasu has strung everything together is like poetry. There are 6 songs and 6 fights in the film.

From the 6 songs, 5 of them have the Perarasu touch, being of the kuthu variety. Only one is a melody and it is to be shot at a foreign locale.
Ajith, Perarasu

Thirupati vandaa thiruppam…theepori pola iruppom…Just like the song, Ajith plays with fire, as he smashes the villains in every other scene. They say such a car chase in the climax has not been seen till now in Tamil films.

In ‘Paramasivan,’ Ajith does a fantastic bike chase, but the car chase in the climax of ‘Thirupati’ is ten times grander, says director Perarasu. As usual, Ajith has not used a dupe for these chase scenes. Once the film is released, another person who will get as much appreciation as the hero is stunt master Dalapathi Dinesh! Dinesh has made each of the 6 fight sequences, an art in itself.

Ajith fans can look forward to a feast on Tamil New Year’s day!

Preview of Thirupathi

Tirupathi
- A complete package

A
rejuvenated Ajith, after tasting success finally with Paramasivan,
teams up with biggies like director Perarasu and a famed production
house like AVM for Tirupathi.

The movie is 167th venture from the famed production house, which completed its diamond jubilee year.

Considered a safe bet in the industry is director
Perarasu. After back-to-back hits in Thirupachi and Sivakasi, he now
ventures to direct Ajith.

‘I am aware of the expectations building up not only
from Ajith’s fans but also from the industry as such. I could only
marvel at the commitment of Ajith and the freedom from the reputed
banner, says Perarasu.

Known for swift screenplay and enough action, Perarasu has not tried to deviate from his style in Tirupathi.

‘Music has played an important facet in my earlier
ventures. Bharadwaj’s racy offering has five songs including a
melodious number which should satisfy Ajith’s fans’, he adds.

Perhaps it has. The audio has done wonderfully well at the market.

This is Ajith’s first film in the prestigious banner, produced by M Saravanan and M S Guhan.

Ajith, who is looking slim, plays a ‘mike set and
serial light’ operator. There are plenty of interesting punch-lines for
him in this movie.

According to Saravanan, ‘plans were on for a long
time to do a movie with Ajith. Thanks to my son Guhan things took shape
with Tirupathi’.

For Sada playing heroine alongside Ajith for a
reputed production firm like AVM was a dream come true experience. She
says, ‘I play a naughty girl in the movie and was nice to be part of
this team’.

Sada’s run-ins with Ajith would be one of the highlights of the movie.

Perarasu will handle the story, screenplay, lyrics and direction.

The other credits are: Saravanan (camera); Thota Tharani (art director); Antony (editing) and ‘Super’ Subbarayan (stunts).
