Ajith’s Press Meet

Friday, January 27th, 2006

The success of Paramasivan has changed Ajith a lot.

Once known for his casual talk, Ajith was much more measured in his words while addressing the
media on Thursday in Chennai.

Thanking his fans for making the movie a huge hit,
Ajith said, ‘Though I had Paramasivan  released  almost a year later
then my previous film, I was under no pressure. Iam confident, a
individual who gives his best try in all his endeavors will succeed’.’.

A trim-looking Ajith silenced his critics by
essaying the role of an angry young man in Paramasivan. But Ajith is
all philosophical.

‘Success and failures are part and parcel of every profession. If one gives his best, success will follow’.

‘Over the years, I have realized that I spoke a lot.
Now I have realized that if I keep to be myself and do my job, I can
satisfy my fans. Henceforth, I will let my movies talk’, the actor said.

After Paramasivan, Ajith would have God Father, then
Tirupathi ready for release. He would begin Naan Kadavul directed by
Bala beginning this March.

On the unprecedented opening that his Paramasivan
witnessed, Ajith says, ‘all credit should go to my fans. It would not
be exaggeration to say that I would dedicate my entire life for them.
But for them I would not have dreamt of bouncing back with such vigor’.

Watch out other heroes, for Ajith wound up saying he wants to be more professional.

Ajith about Naan Kadavul and his get-up

Friday, January 27th, 2006

After a long silence, Ajith speaks to the press. Last year he had vowed that he would not speak to the media until he gave a hit. Now that Paramasivan has had a fair success, has he opened up? However his words were measured. Said Ajith: "I know that I talked rather brashly when Anjeneya was about to be released. Then I realized that it was difficult and not in our hands to match actions with words.

Therefore I decided that I would not speak much but show it in my deeds. The media has been saying a lot about me but, I took things constructively. I don’t feel demoralized as some of my detractors claim. I am the same Ajith. But more matured now. I don’t share my secrets even with my shadow. If there is one group that I speak to, it is my fan group. Naan Kadavul kick starts in April. I am presently doing homework for that. I come with long hair. Well, I hope to give my fans good movies."

Bala : “Naan Kadavul will have a different Ajith”

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Ajith may have slimmed down for Paramasivam to regain his old lover boy looks but Bala wants none of this looks for his next movie, Naan Kadavul. So, Bala has instructed Ajith to be ready by March end.

The next moment Ajith completes Tirupathi, Naan Kadavul will take off. So, he has asked Ajith to change his regimen, to sport a different, very different look. And Ajith seems to be taking lot of care towards himself and his stylish mane. And what role is Ajith going to play? “It’s a top secret, watch the suspense unravel on the screen" the man smiles.

Vasu with Big B

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Close
on the heels of Chandramukhi, director P Vasu has given another hit
with Paramasivan starring Ajith this Pongal. The grand opening of the
movie has brought more cheers for this veteran director.

Caught in a cheerful mood, Vasu says, ‘equal credit should be given for Ajith for giving his heartout in Paramasivan.’

His splendid heroics in the climax (a bike chase)
has won admiration from the masses, Vasu says and adds, ‘the movie has
reported good showing in moffusil centers too’

Confirming that he would be doing the Hindi remake
of Chandramukhi next year starring Amitabh Bachchan, he added that
Kajol might play the role enacted by Jyothika in the original.

Vasu is all geared up to begin his next project in
Telugu starring Balakrishna and Nayantra. Towards the year-end, he
would be directing a movie for Sivaji Films, the producers of
Chandramukhi.

So it is all happening for Vasu.

Selva’s Ajith starrer – Sonia picked.

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

When reports trickled in that Selvaraghavan was looking for five heroines for his Ajith, Dhanush and Bharath starrer, Kodambakkam divas became alert. Many heroines are sending men and messages to the auteur, some even pleading with the guy.

One notable who has sent feelers to Selvaraghavan that she was even willing to work free for him is Five Star Kaniha! Howzzat? By the way, Selvaraghavan is looking for only four heroines, one is already decided, Sonia Agarwal.

Ajith ‘ultimately’ plumps for astrology.

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

The success of Paramasivam has not made Ajith budge from his vow that he would not talk much but show his mettle in deeds. However, Ajith has changed in some respects after all. He now believes in Astrology and Vaastu; he has effected several changes to his office and looks for the secret of numbers whenever a name is suggested.

The man is certainly revving up with fuel of all forms – divine and physical - to lash out at his detractors.

An all new Ajit!

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Ajit is a changed man. The super opening of Paramasivan,
has not affected him in any way. Earlier he would have thrown a big
bash, but now the actor says that he has no time to celebrate.

He is continuously shooting for AVM’s Tirupati, personally looking into the post-production work of  Godfather, discussing the script of Njan Kaduvul with Bala, giving him hardly any time to sleep!

The man is obsessed with work and has no time or inclination to talk about his recent success. Ajit told Moviebuzz:
"I told you sometime back, that my movies will talk and not me. I think
I will stick to that. You have been reporting the kind of opening that Paramasivan took, which speaks for itself".

Ajit is the only actor in the country or perhaps in the world who does
not do any kind of promotion for his films on television, as he
believes that his loyal fans will come to the theatres to watch him on
the big screen. Ajit feel that there is no need to talk about his
career moves and future films as he believes in the old saying-
“Silence is golden”!

Rajini’s Vizag, Kamal’s Kodai, Vijay’s Sydney & Ajith’s Marina.

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Imagine the majestic Niagara on an I-max screen! Or the Grand Canyon or Kilimanjaro or the magnificent Himalayas. Wow, what a scene it would be. They are more awe inspiring on screen than on location.

Do you want to find out the sceneries and locations that your favorite heroes like?

Rajinikanth is carried away not by exotic locations but by two ordinary town in India—SriRangapattinam in Mysore and Visakhapatinam in Andhra Pradesh. If at all there is a foreign locale that attracts him it is Switzerland. He likes the place only when songs are picturized there.
Rajini & Kamal
Kamalhassan’s fave spots are Kodaikanal, the Botanical Gardens at Ooty, Darjeeling and Kashmir. Outside India his favorite spots are in Australia and Canada.

Like Kamal, Vijay too likes Australia. His fave spot is 1500′ bridge at Sydney Harbour. Asked whether he loved any place in India as much as Sydney, he said he had to think.
Vijay & Ajith
As expected, Ajith’s favourite locations are Switzerland and New Zealand. They look like heaven on earth, he confesses. “When I am really at the location, I am unable to appreciate the beauty because of the tensions of work.” “In India I like our own Marina Beach. Don’t forget Kashmir, I like that too. At least on screen, you can visit the place safely," says Ajith.

Vikram’s heart is nearer home, Paramakudi. “My god, man, how beautiful our own places look on screen!” the hero grins. Of course, Vikram also likes the beauty of Kulu Manali and then, he likes Switzerland too.

Surya is floored by the backwaters of Kerala. He is completely fascinated with places like Thodupuzha, Kozhalpara flyover and Kudiyaputhoor.
Vikram & Surya

Young blood, Simbu likes the golden beach at Goa, both at day and at night. He also loves the banks of the Blue Nile and energy of Niagara

Would they love to stay at these places? “Oh no, no, I am good at home, sweet home!!” comes the instant reply from the Superstars. Well, that’s the catch.

Pongal pasting!

Friday, January 20th, 2006

The
New Year started on a sour note for Tamil film trade. It was the worst
Pongal in recent times as Kollywood has never seen so many flops during
a festival season! Moviebuzz tries to find out how and why the Pongal releases crumbled at the turnstiles? An in depth analysis of what went wrong.

Aathi- First and foremost this Vijay film was a quickly
conceived project born out of greed to cash in on Vijay’s new found
superstar rating and marketability. This film was produced by Vijay’s
father S.A.Chandrasekhara which was a remake of a Telugu super hit. The
storyline was a rehash of many earlier action films of the past with a
lot of blood and gore which the audience is sick of. Vijay and his dad
drove away the family audience with this blood spattered show.

The marketing and release strategy also backfired. The first copy of
the film was ready only on the eve of the release of the film as a
rough cut was shown to censors. Bad planning goofed up the release date
and it could not be released on Pongal Day. This resulted in a loss of
Rs 3 Crore (from 180 odd prints in Tamilnadu alone) at the box-office
out of the bumper opening. And the next day, prints reached late in
many parts of Tamilnadu and they could hold only three out of five
shows on the release day.

Like all Vijay films, Aathi
too took a great opening but started dropping on the third day. In
Madurai, Vijay’s traditional stronghold from 100 percent on opening
day, the film dropped to an alarming 72 percent on day five!

Bottomline- S.A.Chandrsekhara is rumoured to have sold the film for a
whopping Rs 19 Crore. The distributors got fancy Minimum Guarantee (MG)
amounts from the theatres all over Tamilnadu who will now lose money
and is unlikely to recover their MG.

Paramasivan- The master copycat P.Vasu ripped an old Hindi film Kartoos
based on Mahesh Bhatt’s bomb-terrorist-blast story. The film had lot of
brawn and no brain! But Vasu and producer Ramesh Babu was saved due to
the sympathy wave among audience and the curiosity to see a much
thinner Ajith. The film also benefited without any opposition on Pongal
Day, after Aathi’s delay in release. Mayajaal on East Coast
Road in Chengalpet area played 21 shows of the film on Pongal Day in
six screens multiplex and the distributors share was Rs 4.30 Lakhs! Its
first week distributors share from Chennai city’s five screens is a
whopping Rs 34 Lakhs!

In Coimbatore, a Ajit stronghold, the film did 100 percent business on
the first three days but after that it started dropping to 85 percent
(day three), 70 percent (day four) and 60 percent (day five).

Bottomline- Everybody is happy that they will not lose money and in fact make a marginal profit. The MG amount for Paramasivan was only 50 percent of the MG paid for Aathi! But the film has no future and is already limping!

Saravana-
How could the frail-looking Silambarasan beat up an army of baddies
single handedly? This is the question being asked by the audience.
Again a blood and gore subject which is a Telugu remake had the
audience not even taking a glance. If the film was released earlier and
not with biggies, it would have done better.

Bottomline- Everybody concerned mainly Simbu and his dad will lose
money as they had purchased the film and released it themselves!

Pasakilikal- This sentimental tearjerker should never have released with action movies with big stars.

Bottomline- A total wash-out.
